8-2-2010 | Haiti: helping hands for tuberculosis patients and disabled people The earthquake that struck Haiti two months ago has brought new challenges for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. The Red Cross is supporting a badly-damaged tuberculosis sanatorium in Léogane and a rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities in Port-au-Prince that has taken in children who lost limbs during the earthquake.
12-3-2010 | Sudan: violence threatens civilians in the south Thousands of people in Sudan's south continue to suffer owing to ethnic violence and food insecurity. The ICRC is operating in the country while pressing for the release of staff member Gauthier Lefèvre (read interview), whose abduction in October has led to the curtailing of ICRC activities in Darfur. 9-3-2010 | Weapon contamination The brochure summarizes the problem of weapon contamination, presents the ICRC's Weapon Contamination Unit, and describes how the ICRC acts to protect civilians from the effects of weapon contamination. Topics include clearance, risk education and risk reduction. 4-3-2010 | Democratic Republic of the Congo: the lost children of Goma – film In the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has been ravaged by decades of war, hundreds of children are missing or separated. 17-year-old Shukuru hasn’t seen his parents for 8 months, but with help from the ICRC tracing team, he's found at least part of his family. 16-2-2010 | Afghanistan: war zone hospital – film Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar serves over 4 million people across southern Afghanistan. As fighting in the region intensifies, the number of casualties through its doors is also rising sharply.
